In the year 2009 Saath Charitable Trust initiated the Child Rights for the Change Program in 120 villages of Dholka and Viramgam block of Ahmedabad District. During the process along working with children organization also decided to on women empowerment. After working for one and half year in 2011, Saath decided to start its own initiative named “The Saath Mahila Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd”. Objective behind the setting up the cooperative at rural area was provide a platform for women to come together, share, learn, save and create long- term income-generating activities for themselves and to provide a platform to women where they can come to together, share, learn, save and create long-term income-generating activities for themselves. And thus reduces their dependency on the male members of the family and at the same time empowers women and develop their leadership which ultimately increases their bargaining power within the community. During the 9 year of journeys, more than 15000 rural women and girls got associated with The Saath Mahila Saving and Credit Co-operative Society Limited by availing saving and credit facility as well as through various trainings programs (saathmahila.org)
Due to the various limitations The Saath Mahila Saving and Credit Co-operative Society Limited was unable to take up welfare and development activities for rural women and thus in the year 2018 it decided to set up a separate entity called “Saath Gramin Trust ” under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 . The Saath Gramin Trust aims at conducting studies, creating knowledge, empowering women and girls by conducting various development-welfare activities and capacity building programs.
